Ring has extended its Retinal 2K video standard across its outdoor camera range with the Spotlight Cam (2nd Gen) and Floodlight Cam (2nd Gen), bringing the resolution tier previously reserved for premium models to a more accessible price point for the first time.
The move completes Ring’s push to standardise Retinal 2K across its entire outdoor lineup, rather than confining the specification to higher-end devices such as the Spotlight Cam Pro, a shift that narrows the feature gap between the brand’s entry and mid-range tiers considerably.
The Spotlight Cam (2nd Gen) targets homeowners looking for a compact outdoor security solution and introduces a dual-chamber battery design, along with support for the separately sold Quick Release Ultra Battery Pack, giving users more flexibility in how they manage power without committing to a wired installation.
That camera also carries a 550-lumen built-in spotlight for nighttime deterrence, with the Retinal 2K resolution intended to deliver clearer detail in facial recognition and motion capture scenarios compared to the 1080p output it replaces across the standard range.
For larger outdoor areas such as driveways and garages, the Floodlight Cam (2nd Gen) pairs the same Retinal 2K video with 2,000-lumen floodlights, a significant step up in brightness that addresses coverage requirements where a compact spotlight camera would fall short across wider open spaces.
Ring states that the resolution upgrade improves image clarity across the full field of view in both daytime and nighttime conditions, a claim that applies equally to both new cameras, regardless of their differing form factors and lighting output.
Both cameras are available to pre-order in the UK ahead of a full release on 3 June 2026, with the Spotlight Cam (2nd Gen) priced from £149.99 and the Floodlight Cam (2nd Gen) from £179.99, with regional availability across Australia, Canada, Europe, and New Zealand confirmed but subject to local variation.
