Netflix launching redesigned iPhone app with vertical video feed

After botching its Apple TV app with an inferior custom video player, Netflix is updating its iPhone app with a vertical video feed.

Netflix says the new app is coming in April

The streamer announced the new app feature in a letter to shareholders following its latest earnings report.

In addition to continued innovation on our new TV UI, after a period of testing and iteration, we are launching an updated mobile experience at the end of the month that includes a vertical video discovery feed. This redesign will better reflect our expanding entertainment offering and make it easier for members to engage how and when they want.

Netflix says the “redesigned” app with vertical video will arrive before the end of April.

We are also redesigning our mobile experience, including the launch of vertical video at the end of the month.

Separately, Netflix co-founder and Chairman Reed Hastings announced plans to step down from the board.

Netflix users with Apple TV may choose to believe this is due to the new custom video player.

Netflix recently launched a games app for subscribers

Earlier this month, the company launched a brand new app for subscribers called Netflix Playground. It includes mini-games that competes with Apple Arcade’s titles for a younger audience.

Last month, the company raised prices for each of its plans, including the ad-supported tier.

In February, Netflix dropped its bid to be the new home of HBO following a raised bid by Paramount.
