Google just shut down the old Nest forums and old accounts

Google has completed its migration of the Home and Nest Community from a third-party forum platform to its own internal support infrastructure, a transition that strips longtime members of their accumulated standing.

The switch ends Google’s arrangement with the same external service that previously hosted its since-discontinued Stadia forums, bringing smart home discussions under direct Google ownership for the first time in several years and applying a restructured layout to the community in the process.

Accounts created on the old platform will not carry over to the replacement, as Google cited security and privacy considerations for its decision not to transfer login credentials, leaving members who built up reputations across years of contributions with no automatic path to reclaim their forum identity.

That means badges, rank designations, and community status levels accumulated on the previous forum are permanently lost, with affected users required to register new profiles from scratch on the updated platform before they can participate in any discussions.

Beyond account credentials, the old forum’s post archive has a hard deletion date of 30 June 2026, after which Google will permanently remove all content and account data that was not migrated or saved independently by individual users before that deadline.

The restructured community organises discussions into ten product-specific sections covering hardware categories including cameras, doorbells, speakers, displays, and thermostats, alongside dedicated areas for Gemini for Home, app and automations, account management, connectivity and security, and a space specifically for smart home developers.

Google has framed the consolidation as an effort to reduce off-topic noise and address the spam issues that third-party forum infrastructure made more difficult to moderate effectively, with the new structure giving the company direct control over content organisation and user management for the first time.

The old forum content remains accessible until 30 June 2026, giving members a narrow window to retrieve any guides, troubleshooting threads, or community discussions they want to preserve before Google closes the archive permanently.
