macOS Golden Gate: Here’s the list of Macs compatible with the update

Today during its WWDC keynote, Apple unveiled the Mac’s next major software version: macOS Golden Gate. Here’s the full list of Mac models compatible with the update.

Here are the Mac models compatible with macOS Golden Gate

Apple announced last year that macOS Tahoe would be the last software version that supports pre-Apple silicon Macs.

And today’s macOS 27 confirmed that Intel Macs are no longer supported. You’ll need an Apple silicon model to run the latest software.

Here’s the full list of Macs compatible with macOS Golden Gate:

  • MacBook Neo (2026)
  • MacBook Air with Apple silicon (2020 and later)
  • MacBook Pro with Apple silicon (2020 and later)
  • iMac with Apple silicon (2021 and later)
  • Mac mini with Apple silicon (2020 and later)
  • Mac Studio with Apple silicon (2022 and later)
  • Mac Pro with Apple silicon (2023 and later)

There are four Macs that supported macOS Tahoe that are being dropped this year: MacBook Pro (16‑inch, 2019), MacBook Pro (13‑inch, 2020, Four Thunderbolt 3 ports), iMac (2020), and Mac Pro (2019).

If you’re stuck on macOS Tahoe, Apple will continue to support the update with security fixes for a long while to come. But for the latest software features, you’ll need to upgrade to a new Mac first.
