Google just teased its next smart speaker

Google’s Chief Product Officer for Gemini for Home has dropped a public hint that a new Google Home speaker is imminent, with a Reddit post from Anish Kattukaran telling users to watch their inboxes closely in the coming week.

Kattukaran’s post, shared to the Google Home subreddit, is primarily a note of thanks to users for their feedback on Gemini for Home, but a closing remark directed at those “patiently waiting for a certain speaker” has added significant weight to existing leaks pointing toward a late-June release.

A Best Buy Canada listing that surfaced earlier this month had already suggested a 25 June 2026 release date for the device, and Kattukaran’s cryptic sign-off aligns that timeline with what would be the final week before that date, lending the retailer leak a credibility it previously lacked on its own.

The original Google Home speaker launched in the United States in 2016, making the anticipated device the first new entry in the line in roughly a decade, following years during which Google’s smart speaker output was largely limited to the Nest Audio and the Nest Mini rather than a full Home successor.

Pricing details from the Best Buy Canada listing put the new speaker at $140 CAD, roughly equivalent to the Nest Audio’s $100 USD price point, with the listing also indicating availability in Hazel and Porcelain colourways.

Google last refreshed its smart speaker lineup with the Nest Audio in 2020, meaning the anticipated device would mark the company’s first new full-sized Home speaker in six years.

Whether the device goes on sale directly or opens for pre-order first remains unclear, though a formal announcement from Google rather than a full retail launch appears the more likely outcome for next week based on how the company typically stages its hardware rollouts.
