Shark’s new PowerDetect Transformer converts between upright, stick, and handheld configurations from a single modular unit.
The full upright mode delivers the strongest suction of the three modes, targeting deep cleaning on carpets and hardwood floors through a dual-brushroll system that captures more dirt, debris, and hair than single-brush alternatives in both the upright and stick configurations.
That dual-brushroll design also addresses a persistent maintenance frustration in the vacuum category, as it actively removes hair wrapping during a cleaning pass rather than letting it accumulate on the brushes, which typically requires scissors to resolve after the fact.
Switching to stick mode involves detaching the main canister through a one-click mechanism, which slims the unit down to fit into tighter spaces while retaining the dual-brushroll system that defines the PowerDetect range, making the transition between modes more functionally consistent than the step-down performance seen in some convertible competitors.
Beyond the stick configuration, removing the wand entirely produces a handheld vacuum, with each of the smaller modes using a secondary canister positioned near the handle to collect dirt during use rather than routing it back to the main body.
That secondary canister connects back to the larger upright canister automatically when the Transformer returns to its full configuration, which removes the need to manage two separate dust cups and distinguishes the system from convertible designs that require manual emptying at each stage.
The modular vacuum category has expanded noticeably in recent years, with Eufy having introduced its own transforming model that moves between robot, stick, and handheld forms, though Shark’s approach starts from an upright base rather than a robotic platform, reflecting a different set of cleaning priorities for households that prioritise carpet and floor performance above all else.
The Shark PowerDetect Transformer is available now through Shark’s website and TikTok Shop, with pricing starting at $529 for the standard model and rising to $650 for a bundle that adds tools and heads for homes with pets.
