Homey has achieved Matter 1.5 certification that adds EV chargers and solar panels to a hub still built for older smart home gear.
That certification covers Homey Pro models released between 2023 and 2026, the Homey Pro mini, and the Homey Self-Hosted Server, extending the update across the hub’s entire current line-up under one certified software component.
Alongside the certification, Matter 1.5 adds support for a wider set of device categories, with EV chargers, heat pumps, solar panels, and major appliances joining the list of products Homey can control natively.
Those additions place Homey alongside a growing number of smart home hubs extending Matter beyond lighting and locks into energy management, an area competitors including Apple Home and Google Home have only recently begun to address.
Beyond the new device categories, Homey’s Matter Bridge app addresses a separate limitation, letting devices already connected through Zigbee, Z-Wave, infrared, Bluetooth, 433MHz, Wi-Fi, or proprietary manufacturer APIs appear as standard Matter accessories in other ecosystems.
That bridge covers lights, sockets, thermostats, locks, window coverings, and sensors, and works with Apple Home, Google Home, Amazon Alexa, Samsung SmartThings, and Home Assistant, while Homey retains control of the original device.
Discussing the update, Athom CEO Stefan Witkamp said Matter is making it easier to choose smart home products across brands, adding that most people already own devices that will never speak Matter natively and those should stay just as usable as anything bought new.
Beyond this update, Athom’s own history reflects the platform’s broader ambitions. The company was founded in the Netherlands in 2014 and became part of LG Electronics in 2024, with Homey now supporting more than 50,000 devices from over 1,000 brands.
In terms of availability, Matter 1.5 support is live now on Homey Pro, Homey Pro mini, and Homey Self-Hosted Server, with Homey Pro and Pro mini including a built-in Thread Border Router for Matter-over-Thread devices, while Self-Hosted Server users need a separate Thread Border Router on their own network.
The certification was issued on 29 June 2026 for firmware version 13.3.0, and Homey remains backward compatible with devices certified under earlier versions of Matter, so existing setups continue working as the standard evolves.
